Okay so, I've had a this problem quite a few times already. I would be doing something on the computer, and all of the sudden, the screen would go blue, and there's a message on my computer (no it's not the same blue screen as 2000 or xp).
The message says something like "if this is the first time you've seen this message please disregard" blah blah blah "if not. ..." something something something
and under all that crap, there's this thing that says:
Dumping Physical Memory to Disk: 20
and the 20 would jump to 40, and so forth.
so... wtf is this? and how do i fix it?
it rarely happens though.

You're definitely getting the blue screen of death and your computer is configured to do a complete dump of your memory. That number going from 20 to 40 to whatever is a percentage of completion so, when you see that 20, it means your computer is 20% done dumping the contents of your memory into a file.
As I've learned, there can be many causes of BSOD's. I suggest you read through the thread where Tachys and Cursed helped me with a similar problem: http://www.ragedgamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=377
The first post isn't important, but the info Tachys and Cursed provide is.

Look at the post I just made and look up the code and go from there. I think there has been a windows update that has problem the same drivers you two both have and its causing the diver to go bad. I think both of you have a Asus motherboard and I would bet its one of the many drivers for the board.

You might try and see if there is a bios update for the board. That may fix all of your problems.

you want socket 775 hense LGA 775
Blue screens in vista usualy indicate heat issuses, espically during the summer.
Open up your side panel and wait to blue screen then touch your cpu heatsink, ram and video card. If you get burnt your got heat issue lol.
Many of people dont release that heat can cause blue screens ive had it happen a couple times on the hotest days.
Check to make sure your comp is dust free by the sounds of it your lazy so its probably dusty lol.
I had to up my video card fans and put fan heatsink on my ram that day.
